What is SEDNET?

The SEDNET Project is a state grant awarded by the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Instructional Support and Community Services, which funds local projects. These projects are designed to encourage the ongoing development of a comprehensive system of care and improve the range and quality of services available to school age children with, or at risk of, emotional handicap or severe emotional disturbance.

The local SEDNET Project maintains a community council that serves as an advisory board to the project manager and engages in planning, technical assistance, advocacy and information sharing with the community.

What does SEDNET provide?

This project provides service for Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties and offers three specific components which facilitate improvement in the lives of community children:

  1. Technical Assistance
  2. Training
  3. Advocacy

Technical Assistance includes clinical consultation and case management for teachers, specialists, parents and other state and local agency personnel. This assistance helps identify, coordinate and link community services which will best provide remediation, support and encouragement to eligible school children.

Training includes providing specific training, curriculum resources and staff development for teachers, specialists, parents and other interested community groups and individuals.

Advocacy includes the availability of project staff for participation in IEP or other staffing/service entities to provide recommendations and support consistent with recognized best practices of child centered, family focused and least restrictive initiatives, programs and services.
