Basic first aid skills and injury prevention are taught to 8- to 10-year-olds or fourth through sixth-grade. Boys & Girls Clubs of Charlotte County
The Boys & Girls Club of Charlotte County provides a solution to the problems facing youth today.
The Club attracts and guides young people with core programs in five areas:
- Character and Leadership Development - empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others' cultural identities.
- Education and Career Development - enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
- Health and Life Skills - develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
- The Arts - enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
- Sports, Fitness and Recreation - develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Charlotte County offer a 21st CCLC After School program at the Family Services Center for students from (Liberty, Meadow Park & Neil Armstrong); the Tringali Recreation Center for students from (Vineland & Myakka River); and Port Charlotte High School. The Boys & Girls Clubs offers before & after school 21st CCLC programs at Murdock Middle School & LA Ainger Middle School. The 21st CCLC programs at all 5 locations are FREE. Each site provides a daily snack to all participants. The program includes homework help, tutoring, mentoring, FCAT preparation; in additional to traditional Boys & Girls Clubs programs & activities. The Boys & Girls Clubs offer programs at the Gulf Breeze Apartments/Punta Gorda Housing Authority on Cooper Street. This program is also FREE. Parents can contact Queena Cooks for additional information at 941-268-4724.
A Before School program exists at both Punta Gorda Middle School & Port Charlotte Middle School for students in each of those respective schools, there is a minimal fee charged to those students. Parents can contact the Boys & Girls Clubs Administration office at 941-979-8379 for additional information.

New Operation Cooper Street
New Operation Cooper Street is a K-12 After School Program licensed by the Department of Children and Families, serving students attending Sallie Jones, East, Peace River, Liberty and Deep Creek Elementary schools. Students in secondary grades are served with proceeds from other grant sources. Transportation is provided daily from the schools to the center. Hours of operation are from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Children work on completing homework assignments assisted by teachers, tutors, and community volunteers. Hot meals or snacks are served daily. Students participate in supervised indoor/outdoor activities, drama, reading clubs, tennis, martial arts, piano lessons, and computer technology.
During the month of June, the New Operation Cooper Street offers a 4-week Summer Camp to accommodate the students attending the year-round schools.

Police Athletic League (PAL)
The Police Athletic Program at the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is an exciting opportunity to work and play sports with youths and give them crime prevention and law enforcement education at the same time. PAL focuses on academics, athletics and relationships between community and law enforcement. PAL offers after school and summer camp programs.

YMCA
The YMCA provides before and after school programs on premises at six schools. After school programs only are provided on premises at two schools, including Charlotte Harbor Center. The staff provides a safe and enriching program for children who require care before or after school hours.
Registration fee is $25 for one child, or $35 for a family. Weekly fee is $45 for afternoon only, and $55 for morning and afternoon care. Discounts are given for multiple children. YMCA scholarship assistance is available for those who qualify.
Hours before school are 6:30 a.m. to 8:15. After school hours begin when school ends and run until 6:00 p.m. A nutritious afternoon snack is served. Activities include homework help, arts and crafts, learning centers, indoor/outdoor games & sports, special projects, and guest speakers. Programs are held at Charlotte Harbor Center, East Elementary, Deep Creek, Kingsway, Meadow Park, Neil Armstrong, Peace River, and Sallie Jones. Due to playground restrictions, 4-yr-olds are not accepted at Deep Creek or Meadow Park. Programs are also available during Intersession and SRD.
